“Stone Rain” was a real pain to pull off, because it was actually written and arranged over 20 years ago – but before it could get finished back then, life got in the way.

So the song was put on the back burner until Ayuma happened to hear it and said that, whilst being a good song, it was far too slow and ponderous – hence she asked if we couldn’t re-record it a fair bit faster.

No sooner said than done: Thanks to Ayuma’s suggestion, we increased the song’s tempo from 93 BPM to 113 BPM, and so this formerly sombre doom track was transmogrified into a much more elegant and uplifting goth rock song.

The only problem was that I no longer owned some of the synths I’d originally used to record “Stone Rain”; but I didn’t want to do without their distinctive sounds either, so a fair bit of appalling audio stretching was required for this re-recording… but it was well worth the effort.

In this context, I would also like to express my gratitude to Frank W. Hennig, who contributed his marvellous baritone vocals.

Though the sorrow of such a loss cannot but be deeply felt, there is, at the same time, a degree of comfort to be found in gratitude: that you have been fortunate enough to experience a love so uncommon, so exceptional in its felicity, as is not granted to many. Its memory, therefore, is preserved with the utmost care, and treasured as one of your heart’s most valued possessions.

This song was conceived upon my waking, in a state of great fatigue, from a dream in which I had imagined the very circumstance here described.

‘Petrification’ is about emotional and existential desolation. The protagonist of this song is overwhelmed by lies, loss, and a collapsing world around her, and she becomes emotionally numb — hence she turns into stone.

Her soul is consumed by despair and apathy, and the more she tries to get away from the world, the more she becomes isolated and stagnant.

Nature itself mourns her transformation, and even the end is bleak, because it implies that the fundamental rhythm of existence has lost meaning.

In essence, this song depicts a slow petrification of spirit — an inner death masked by external stillness, where both the individual and the world seem to decay together.

This sepulchral song reflects our current feelings about the political situation in the world – yet our next song is going to be released around Beltane 2026

‘The Last Goodbye’ is about the moment when one realises that a relationship is on the brink of failure, but doesn’t want to admit it and instead trying everything to turn things around.

But saving this love requires the will and strength of both parties – and above all, honesty and sincerity.

But if one of the two has already left the this relationship behind and is just looking for a convenient opportunity to sneak out of the back door, while the other is still fighting for this love, failing to realise that he or she is only clinging to memories of the past and doesn't see how much the person they once loved has changed, then this fight no longer makes any sense at all and it is therefore much better to face the pain, say a last goodbye and leave the playground of emotions where there was nothing to be gained anyway.
